Greetings,

I sat down with my mom yesterday to discuss her thoughts on some of the more pervasive challenges faced by women in today’s world. She shared that one of the most consistent battles is the dissonance between the fantasies we’ve absorbed from the world and the realities, hardships, and choices we encounter on our ongoing journey to conform to the image and love of Jesus.

It’s impossible for us not to live our lives according to one "gospel" or another. Jesus asks us to lay down our lives, pick up our crosses, and follow Him all the way to the resurrection. In contrast, the world’s narrative promises empowerment, independence, visibility, relevance, and, of course, happiness.

But there’s something deeply ironic about this so-called “independent” gospel. Those who choose it believe they’ve avoided submission to an outside authority, yet they don’t see how, in choosing the world’s gospel of selfishness and independence, they’ve merely come under a different master. “Do you not know that when you present yourselves to someone as slaves for obedience, you are slaves of the one whom you obey?” (Rom. 6:16).

Whereas God calls us to submission openly and honestly—spelling out exactly what it entails—the devil seduces us into subjugation, always in the name of our own good and freedom. He never mentioned himself in the Garden of Eden, nor did he suggest that this was his way of becoming the ruler, prince, and god of this world. No, he focused solely on Adam and Eve’s personal empowerment—on their becoming like God.

My mom pointed out that, despite the enticement and appeal of the world’s mantras for women, when we look at their “success stories”—politicians, pop icons, and stars—where do we find among these supposed paragons a personal life, a marriage, or a community that we would truly desire for ourselves? The answer is clear: it isn’t there.

The real question that these false solutions attempt to address is this: How do we become children of God? Only by answering this can we attain true acceptance, along with the peace, joy, love, and lasting fruit that follow. Our acceptance by God is based on our trust in Him and our ability to receive Him in all His many expressions. This gives us the power to be called His children. Embracing the order of His design and choosing the humility that releases grace, which is favor, which is acceptance—this will bring the rest for our souls that so many seek today.

I invite you to explore these ideas further by watching my full interview with my mom, Regina Adams. Her experience and perspective offer light and direction through the fog of the world’s empty promises.

May God bless us all as we seek to find our hope, our peace, our joy—our all—in Him.

Warmly,
Asahel
